John Deere Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT™)
John Deere Infinitely Variable Transmission

Producers everywhere are making the shift to IVT. This revolutionary transmission technology brings efficiency, consistent power, and user-friendly controls to help you gain more productivity in field operations.

It's available on 6030 Premium Series, 7030 Premium Series, 7030 Series and 8030 Series Tractors.

What IVT does for you
IVT increases in-field productivity by automatically selecting the right speed ratios to help you do more work in less time. The tractor can operate at reduced engine speed to save fuel. And it’s simple to operate, letting you focus on the task at hand, rather than trying to find the right gear.

Read what producers have to say about John Deere IVT:

Three steps to optimal performance with John Deere IVT
Get the most efficiency out of your tractor with minimal effort. John Deere IVT is as easy to use as 1, 2, 3.

  • First, start the tractor and select your direction of travel with the left-hand reverser.
  • Second, accelerate using the hand or foot throttle.
  • Finally, select or adjust infinite speeds on-the-go using the Speed Control Lever, located conveniently on the operator console or CommandARM™.

Customize your IVT performance
IVT selector knob Use the IVT Selector knob on the right console to adjust to the task at hand. The engine and transmission communicate up to 500 times per second to respond instantly to changing conditions.

Left side (load control mode)
The load control mode provides automatic transmission ratio changes under load to maintain constant peak power levels to pull through tough spots in the field or during transport.

  • Use in PTO applications
  • Engine rpm stays consistent
  • Maximizes productivity

Right side (fuel economy mode)
In fuel economy mode, IVT automatically maximizes fuel efficiency in medium and light load conditions. You’ll see constant vehicle speed at reduced engine rpm levels, which increases overall fuel economy. And because of the lowered engine speed, in-tractor noise levels are reduced and long-term durability is greatly enhanced.

  • Minimizes fuel consumption in tillage, seeding and transport
  • Engine speed allowed to drop further

Infinite Speeds
John Deere IVT has a top transport speed of 31 mph (50K), operating at reduced engine rpm while in economy mode to save fuel. You can travel as slow as 165 ft/hr (50m/hr). This feature is standard on all IVT-equipped tractors.

No clutching
The footbrake integrates an exclusive feature called AutoClutch, so there is no clutching needed with John Deere IVT. You can stop the tractor at any speed or engine rpm by simply depressing the foot brakes. To resume speed, release the brakes and the tractor accelerates to its previously commanded speed.

Stop on a hill or maintain a powered stop position
The left-hand reverser also has a PowerZero™ function to stop the tractor and hold it stationary whatever the engine rpm or slope. Simply lift up the left-hand reverser lever while in the neutral position, and you’ll be able to stop the tractor on a hill or maintain a powered stop position during loader work. Reengage the reverser lever into the desired travel direction to move the tractor, without rolling before movement. It’s a very efficient, simple system to operate.
