Grain Growers: Chop, Drop and Roll with the 9660 WTS

John Deere Combine Despite continuing innovations in rotary technology, walker-type combines are still the harvesters of choice for many grain producers, especially those who must balance straw quality with raw throughput.

For these growers, John Deere is introducing the 9660 WTS, a hard-working Class 6 combine with John Deere’s exclusive Walker-Tine Separation system.

Walker Technology … with a Twist
“The WTS system has proven popular worldwide,” says Roger Maes, Product Delivery Manager, John Deere Harvester Works, “especially in Europe, where wheat yields can easily top 200 bushels per acre and where many growers bale and sell their straw.”

That popularity, says Maes, is due in large part to the unique Power Separator. Sitting near the top of the 6, 11-step walkers, the Power Separator constantly combs the crop mat, allowing trapped grain to fall through to the cleaning shoe.

“It’s a unique solution to a common problem,” says Maes. “Grain can easily get caught in a dense crop mat, but the Power Separator opens up that mat, so grain falls free.”

Premium Features
Grain producers will also appreciate the premium residue management system found on the 9660 WTS. A multi-function tailboard allows growers to chop and spread straw and chaff, windrow straw while spreading chaff to the sides, or windrow straw and chaff. The spread pattern is adjustable from the cab, and can be ‘swung’ from side to side to compensate for strong crosswinds.

The 9660 WTS is also available with some of John Deere’s most advanced systems and features. The optional AutoTrac Assisted Steering System gives operators GPS-based, hands-free straight-line steering, and is available with a range of signals to suit a variety of agricultural applications.
