Waterloo Foundry Receives National Safety Award

(July 3, 2008) – The John Deere Waterloo (Iowa) Foundry has received the 2007 Millionaires Safety Award from the American Foundry Society (AFS). The award recognizes facilities that reach millions-of-hours milestones in consecutive employee hours worked without incurring an occupational injury or illness that resulted in days away from work or death. The Waterloo Foundry has surpassed 5 million hours.

"The Millionaires Safety Award recognizes outstanding commitment to the health and safety of metal casters," said Jerry Call, AFS executive vice president.

The Waterloo Foundry opened in 1972 and employs 465 people. The operation is an isocure core process, gray and ductile iron foundry with three 20-ton electric melt furnaces. A fourth 20-ton furnace is being installed and will be operational by November 2008.

The foundry produces castings for graders, skidders, crawlers, cotton pickers, balers, sprayers and other John Deere equipment.
