Deere's Citizenship Earns Award

(June 3, 2008) – Saying corporate citizenship plays a major role in John Deere's business success, Chairman and CEO Robert W. Lane accepted the Foreign Policy Association's Corporate Social Responsibility Award at a ceremony last week.

Lane was among three executives presented with social responsibility awards at the Foreign Policy Association's 90th anniversary dinner in New York City. In accepting the honor, Lane noted Deere's growth in the emerging markets of Brazil, Russia, India, and China. He said increasing the productivity of the existing agricultural resource base, in an environmentally friendly way, must be seen as a top global priority, and that Deere has developed machinery well-suited for farming conditions across the developing world. Others receiving the corporate social responsibility award were John J. Conroy, Chairman, Baker & McKenzie LLP, a Chicago-based international law firm, and John P. Hofmeister, President, Shell Oil Company.

Founded in 1918, the Foreign Policy Association serves as a catalyst for developing awareness, understanding and informed opinion on U.S. foreign policy and global issues.
