John Deere Thibodaux Receives National Safety Award

(June 12, 2008) – John Deere Thibodaux received a Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) award from the Louisiana Department of Labor during an onsite ceremony on June 11.

The award recognizes Thibodaux for achieving injury and illness rates below national average, and working with the Louisiana Department of Labor to implement an exemplary safety and health management system for its employees. Employers who meet certain SHARP requirements are exempt from OSHA enforcement inspections.

"This award is the direct result of John Deere Thibodaux employees taking ownership for safety in the factory," said Dewey Gravois, Thibodaux's safety and environmental manager. With the introduction of a continuous improvement program at the factory in 2007, Thibodaux's recordable injury rate dropped by 62%.

John Deere Thibodaux makes sugar cane harvesters, landscape loaders, and earth-moving scrapers, and employs more than 450 people.
