Atlanta Athletic Club #18 Duluth, Georgia

-
576 Yards Par 5
The 18th hole at the Atlanta Athletic Club is famous for the shot hit by Jerry Pate to win the 1976 US Open and the lay up by David Toms to win the 2001 PGA Championship. The hole played as a par for these events. The remodeling Rees Jones did in 2006 made the hole even more difficult regardless of which tees you play. The lake on the left side of the fairway was moved into the edge of the rough and more importantly into view from the tee. The bunkering on the right side was moved closer to the fairway and made much more severe. For those attempting to go for the green in two, they face a long carry over the lake to a green that moves from left to right. If you choose to lay up, you have a new bunker to deal with and a lake all along the left side. The prevailing wind that comes over the clubhouse also makes the wedge shot hard to judge. No matter how you choose to play it, the forced carry, deep bunkers, wind and the green movement make this a difficult hole to finish on.
