This module, previously exclusive to John Deere See and Spray™ technology, offers a high GPU- and high CPU-capable platform, and is now available to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to integrate sophisticated vision-based automation into their own products.

In John Deere See and Spray technology, the VPU uses boom-mounted cameras and machine learning models to detect weeds versus crops in the field. When a weed is detected, the VPU sends a command to the ExactApply™ nozzle technology to activate the right number of nozzles to achieve correct coverage. This targeted spray method helps John Deere customers reduce the use of non-residual herbicide and increase their overall coverage.

Designed for demanding environments, this module supports a wide range of applications such as:

  • Advanced vision systems for situational awareness and obstacle avoidance (up to 12 camera ports)
  • Autonomous navigation, advanced robotics, and real-time image and video processing

The John Deere VPU hardware is IP67 rated, interfaces through industry-standard protocols, including CAN and Ethernet and features an innovative air-cooled design, without the use of liquid or internal fans. Contact us at Electronics@JohnDeere.com to discuss your autonomous hardware needs.
